General Research Grant: PhD Scholarship Gerda Henkel

The funding period is generally between one and 24 months.

Applications must be in English or in German.

Support does not depend on the applicant´s nationality or location

The application can be submitted at any time (no deadline)

Fields of research projects scholarship are eligible for support:

• Archaeology
• History of Art
• Historical Islamic Studies
• History
• History of Science
• History of Law
• Prehistory and Early History

Criteria apply for applicants:

• Overall graduation grade (Masters, or for German State examinations Sek II): 1.5 better (foreign graduation certificates will be assessed separately).
• The applicant must not have been older than 28 years of age at the point in time when s/he graduated and qualified to take part in a PhD programme.
• If an applicant was aged 25 when graduating, then he or she can still apply to the Foundation for PhD scholarship when aged 35. This age limit shall be extended to take the following situations into account: night school, bringing up children, military service, work experience and other exceptional circumstances.
• The research project must differ clearly from the topic of the PhD thesis

Research scholarships for PhD scholarships:

Monthly scholarship award: 1,920 euros

• for one child: EUR 480
• for each further child: EUR 120

The family grant is awarded for children who have not yet turned 18.

Monthly endowment for scholarships abroad: 690 euros

Material aid: as required

-13/01/2025: Difusión del concurso desde la VRIDT.

-10/10/2025: Fecha límite para informar a la Dirección de Investigación, sobre la participación en el concurso, completando el Formulario de Iniciativa de Proyectos (FIP) a través del sistema SIVRIDT.

-04/11/2025: Fecha límite para enviar los documentos de avances del proyecto a través del sistema SIVRIDT (Carta de recomendación que debe firmar el Director/la Directora de la Unidad, otro).

-14/11/2025: Plazo máximo de la VRIDT, para solicitar mejoras o ajustes a los proyectos.

-21/11/2025: Plazo máximo para postular en la plataforma de la convocatoria.

-22/12/2025: Plazo máximo para respaldar (subir) los documentos postulados del concurso en el sistema SIVRIDT.
